Change Your Rella Subscription Tier or Billing Cycle

Last updated: June 2, 2026

As your business grows, your team changes, or your client campaigns scale, you may need to adjust your Rella subscription tier or switch your billing cycle. You can upgrade, downgrade, or transition between monthly and annual plans at any time directly through your self-serve billing settings.

About Subscription Changes

All paid plans in Rella can be configured dynamically. When you adjust your plan, Rella syncs your changes with Stripe to calculate proration differences, apply account credits, and update your workspace limits automatically.

Upgrading Your Plan

Upgrading includes transitions like moving from Premium to Premium Plus, or switching from a monthly billing cycle to an annual cycle.

  • Immediate Activation: Upgrades take effect immediately. You gain instant access to your higher limits, increased Ella Workflows monthly run quotas, and additional user seats.

  • Pro-rated Billing: Stripe calculates the unused value of your current plan for the remaining days of your billing month, applies it as a credit toward your new tier, and bills your payment card on file for the prorated difference.

Downgrading Your Plan

Downgrading includes transitions like moving from Premium Plus to Premium.

  • Workspace Limits: When you downgrade, your workspace limits will adjust on your next scheduled renewal date.

  • Proration Credits: Stripe calculates the remaining value of your higher tier. This difference is issued as a billing credit on your Rella account, which will automatically apply to cover your upcoming monthly invoices. No direct cash refunds are issued to your card for mid-cycle downgrades.

Switching Between Monthly and Annual Billing

Changing your billing interval determines how often you are invoiced and how proration balances are distributed.

Monthly to Annual

Switching from monthly to annual billing starts a new billing year immediately. Stripe applies the unused portion of your active monthly payment as a credit, bills your card on file for the remaining annual balance, and resets your monthly cycle.

Annual to Monthly (Credit Application)

If you switch from an annual plan to a monthly plan mid-cycle, Stripe calculates the remaining value of your annual purchase. Because annual plans represent high upfront investments, this remaining balance is applied to your Rella account as a billing credit.

  • Rella does not issue cash refunds back to your credit card when you transition from annual to monthly billing.

  • Instead, this account credit is held on file and will automatically be deducted to pay for your subsequent monthly invoices until the credit is fully exhausted.

Important Callout: Plan Changes During a Free Trial

If your Organization is currently in an active free trial, making any subscription modifications or adding team members will instantly terminate your free trial period.

Stripe will immediately close the trial, activate your paid subscription, and charge your payment card on file for the full amount of your selected plan.

To prevent your trial from ending prematurely, we recommend that you do not use the self-serve buttons to modify your plans or seats while your trial is in progress. Instead, please email us at contact@getrella.com so our billing team can assist you with your transition.

How to Change Your Subscription

To update your subscription tier or billing cycle, you must open Rella on a desktop web browser.

  1. Navigate to your workspace and click Settings in the main sidebar.

  2. Select Billing from the settings menu.

  3. Under the Subscriptions header, click Manage Subscriptions.

  4. Rella will securely redirect you to your Stripe customer billing portal.

  5. Inside the portal, click Update plan next to your active subscription.

  6. Select your new target plan tier (Premium or Premium Plus) and choose your billing interval (Monthly or Yearly).

  7. Review your prorated checkout total, click Continue, and confirm your changes.

  8. Once completed, Stripe will redirect you back to Rella, and your dashboard settings will update to reflect your new plan limits.

Subscription Change FAQs

Can a collaborator or client upgrade our plan?

No. To protect your financial security, only the designated Admin of your Organization has permission to view, manage, or change subscription settings. These billing buttons and settings panels are hidden for members, collaborators, and clients.

What happens if I have outstanding billing credits on my account?

Any proration credits gained from downgrading or switching billing cycles are securely stored in your Stripe profile. Stripe will automatically apply these credits to pay for your future Rella invoices, including seat overages or month-to-month renewals, until the credit balance reaches zero.

Will changing my plan pause my active Ella Workflows?

No. Upgrading your plan keeps your Ella Workflows running continuously with immediate access to higher limits. If you downgrade to Premium, your workflows will remain active as long as your total monthly run volume remains within your new tier's quota.
