Connect Google Drive & Import Media

Last updated: May 29, 2026

Managing campaign assets across client folders can get disorganized fast, especially when downloading and re-uploading large video files eats up your time and hard drive space. Connecting Google Drive to Rella lets you bring files directly into your workspace from your cloud folders without any manual downloads.

About the Google Drive Integration

Rella's Google Drive integration connects your media library directly to your Google account. Instead of using your computer as a middleman, Rella imports files directly from Google’s servers into your Media library.

This integration is completely integrated with Rella's folder system. You can browse your personal Drive, folders shared with you, and company Shared Drives directly within Rella to find the exact assets you need for your Content campaigns.

Supported File Types & Conversion

Rella supports a wide range of file types for cloud import.

  • Images: .jpg.jpeg.png.gif.webp

  • Videos: .mp4.mov.webm.ogg

  • Audio: .mp3.wav.aac

  • Documents: .pdf

  • Google Workspace Native Files: You can also import native Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Drawings. During the import process, Rella automatically converts these cloud files into PDF or PNG formats so they can be processed and displayed as static Media in your workspace.

How to Connect & Import from Google Drive

You can access Google Drive anywhere you upload files in Rella, such as your main Media library or directly inside the Content post creator.

  1. Open your Media library (or click the add media button inside a Content card).

  2. Click the upload button and select Google Drive from the dropdown menu.

  3. If this is your first time connecting, or if your authorization has expired, Google's secure sign-in window will open. Log in to your Google account and grant Rella permission to access your files.

  4. The Google Drive Picker will open as an overlay on your screen.

  5. Browse through My Drive or switch to the Shared drives tab. You can also search for files by name using the search bar.

  6. Select the checkbox for the files or folders you want to import.

  7. Click the import button. Rella will show a progress notification in the bottom-left corner of your screen while your files transfer.

Folder Import Options

When you select one or more Google Drive folders to import, Rella detects the folders and presents you with a Google Drive Folder Import dialog. You can choose how you want these folders to behave:

  • Recreate the selected Google Drive folders in your library: This preserves your original folder structure. Rella will automatically create matching folder directories inside your Rella Media library and place the imported files inside them.

  • Import files only: This flattens the import. Rella will extract all supported files from the folders and import them directly into your current Rella folder location without creating any new subdirectories.

Google Drive FAQs

Can I import files from Google Shared Drives?

Yes. When the Google Drive Picker opens, select the Shared drives tab at the top of the window to browse and import assets from your team's shared folders. Note that you must have at least viewer permissions on the shared drive to import its files.

Why is a file in my Google Drive greyed out or unselectable?

The Google Drive Picker automatically filters out unsupported file formats to prevent import errors. If a file is greyed out, verify that it matches one of our supported image, video, audio, document, or native Google Workspace file formats.
