Designing social media graphics and videos often requires exporting files from design platforms and re-uploading them to your scheduler. Connecting your Canva account to Rella simplifies this process by allowing you to browse and import your designs directly into your Media library without downloading anything.

About the Canva Integration

Rella's Canva integration connects directly to your Canva account. This allows you to pull your designs directly into your calendar drafts or media library.

This integration is built directly into Rella's upload tool. When creating Content or browsing your library, you can open your Canva designs, choose your export formats, select your desired download quality, and import your files directly into your workspace.

Supported Export Formats & Limitations

Rella supports importing both static imagery and animated files from your Canva account.

  • Supported Formats: You can export and import your designs as PNG, JPG, GIF, PDF, PPTX, or MP4 files.

  • Format Limitations: Rella only supports importing image or video files at this time.

  • Premium Elements: If your Canva design contains premium elements that you have not purchased, you must either buy the elements, upgrade to a Canva Pro plan, or export the design in Regular quality.

How to Connect Canva

You can initiate your Canva connection anywhere you upload files, including your main Media library or within an individual post draft.

  1. Open your Media library (or click the add media button inside a Content card).

  2. Select Canva from the upload menu.

  3. If your account is not yet connected, a dialog box will appear reading Connect a Canva account to download your designs.

  4. Click Link Canva (or your connection button) to launch the secure Canva authorization window.

  5. Log in to your Canva account and click Allow to authorize the connection.

  6. Once connected, your Canva design grid will load directly inside Rella.

How to Export & Import Canva Designs

Once your account is linked, you can select and import designs directly into your workspace.

  1. Open the upload menu and click Canva.

  2. Browse your designs inside the popup window. To view your design in Canva before exporting, click View in Canva on any design card.

  3. Select the design you want to import.

  4. Choose your export format (PNG, JPG, GIF, PDF, PPTX, or MP4) from the export format dropdown menu.

  5. Select your export quality:

    • Regular: Standard export quality. Best for standard image drafts and designs that contain unpurchased premium elements.

    • Pro: High-resolution export quality. This requires an active Canva Pro plan or higher. Selecting this option without a Pro plan will cause the export to fail.

  6. Click Export to Rella.

Rella will display a status message reading Exporting Canva Design, followed by Downloading Canva Design while it transfers the files directly into your Rella Media library.

Canva Integration FAQs

Why is my Pro quality export failing?

Exporting in Pro quality requires a Canva Pro subscription. If you do not have a Pro account, or if your design contains premium elements that haven't been purchased, please change your export quality setting back to Regular and try your export again.

Why isn't a design I recently edited appearing in Rella?

If a recently edited design does not appear, click the refresh button at the top of the Canva dialog box to sync the latest files from your account.

How do I disconnect my Canva account?

To remove your account connection, navigate to Profile Settings > Integrations inside Rella, locate Canva, and click the disconnect button. You can re-authorize your connection at any time.
